Transformer oil breakdown voltage standard
2024-08-09
The breakdown voltage criteria for transformer insulating oils depend mainly on the voltage class of the transformer. For different voltage classes, the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil varies. The following are the breakdown voltage standards of insulating oil for different voltage levels of transformers:
For transformers up to 15kV, the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil should not be less than 25kV.
For transformers up to 35kV, the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil should not be less than 35kV.
For transformers from 60 to 220kV, the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil shall be not less than 40kV.
For transformers of 500kV and above, the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil is standardised at ≥60kV.
These criteria ensure that the insulating oil provides sufficient electrical strength to protect the transformer from the risk of electrical breakdown during operation, even under the most unfavourable conditions. Selecting the right insulating oil is essential to ensure the safe operation of the transformer.
